  • Abstract:
  • Thalassemia is a disease that inherits people genetically through their parents. Thalassemia happens because of disorders of blood cells. Main aim of this research is to automate the process of thalassemia identification system which is currently being process manually. This process takes nearly 90 days to compile the test results. Also the patients in different parts of the Island have difficulties in reaching the very few thalassemia identification units established in few main cities. Therefore the major aim of the research is to automate the process of thallassemia identification and provide a user friendly service for the patients. In this research study Image Processing and Classification Tools have used as main methodology. The three main factors used here are analyzing the blood cells, blood shape and blood colour of the red blood cell. Mainly these tests are to check whether the required factors are either normal or not. Changing the size, shape and the color of red blood cell cause many diseases. Doctors use full blood count test, blood picture, iron test and the HPLC test to check whether the patient is having thalassemia or any other disease. Research proposed a system which can be used to identify thalassemia based on the size, shape and the color of red blood cells. Also this research consists of a web application for the patient’s interaction with the doctors via web application.
